Quick answer

To work out profit per sale, subtract product cost, per-sale costs, percentage fees and any included tax from your selling price. The ListingFix profit margin calculator does this in any of its 12 currencies and shows margin, markup, return on cost and break-even price. You supply every fee, as none are prefilled.

What this tool does

How to use it

  1. 1Choose your selling currency and enter the selling price.
  2. 2Add your product cost, then shipping, packaging, ad cost and the fee percentages from your own statement.
  3. 3Read the profit and break-even results, then change the price to see what works.

This calculator works for any marketplace, your own store or a Facebook page, because every number comes from you. It shows profit per sale, margin, markup, return on cost, the lowest price that covers your costs, and how many sales pay for your monthly bills.

We do not prefill any fee or exchange rate here. Fees differ by country, category and seller account and they change, so a default could quietly give you a wrong answer. Copy the current rates from your seller center or payment statement.

Margin and markup are not the same

Margin is profit divided by the selling price. Markup is profit divided by what the item cost you. An item with 100 in total costs that sells for 150 earns 50 in profit, which is a 50% markup but only a 33.3% margin. Check which one a supplier or partner means.

Percentage fees are charged on the selling price, so raising the price raises the fee too. That is why the break-even price here is worked out from your fees and not by simply adding costs together.

Buying in one currency and selling in another

Set a separate cost currency if you import, then enter the rate you actually pay. The rate your bank or card charges can differ from the rate you see in a search, so use the figure on your own statement.

Questions sellers ask

How is the break-even price calculated?

Your fixed costs per sale are divided by what remains of each sale after percentage fees. If costs are 300 and fees take 20%, the break-even price is 300 divided by 0.8, which is 375. At that price the profit on each sale is zero.

Why are the fee boxes empty?

Because the right number depends on your country, category, payment method and account, and it can change. A prefilled guess could make a losing product look fine. Take the rate from your seller center or a recent payment statement, and enter it here.

How do I count returns?

Enter the share of your selling price you expect to lose to returns and refunds over time. For example, if returns cost you about 5% of sales, enter 5. Your own order history is the best source, so leave it blank until you have that number.

How is VAT or sales tax handled?

Enter a rate only if tax is included in the price you charge and you pay it from that money. The tax part is then removed from the price before profit is worked out. Ask your accountant which rate applies, as this page cannot give tax advice.

Does it use live exchange rates?

No. This page has no server and fetches nothing, so you type the rate yourself. That also lets you use the rate you truly pay, including bank or card charges. If the two currencies differ and the rate is blank, the page asks you for it.

What is the difference between margin and markup?

Margin divides profit by the selling price, while markup divides it by what the item cost you. An item with 100 in total costs selling for 150 earns 50, which is a 50% markup but only a 33.3% margin. This calculator shows both.

How do I calculate my profit on Daraz?

Enter your selling price and product cost, then shipping, packaging and ad cost per sale. Copy the commission and payment fee from your Daraz seller center or payment statement. We do not prefill a Daraz rate, because fees differ by category and account and can change.

Is there a free profit margin calculator for online sellers?

Yes. This calculator is free, needs no sign up and runs in your browser. It works for any marketplace, your own store or a Facebook page, because every number comes from you. Your entries are remembered in that browser for your next visit.

What price do I need to reach my target margin?

Enter your target margin and the page shows the price. It divides your per-sale costs by what remains after percentage fees, tax and the margin itself. If those percentages reach 100% together, it says not reachable, because no price can deliver that margin.

How many sales do I need to cover my monthly costs?

Enter your monthly fixed costs, and the calculator divides them by the profit on one sale, then rounds up to a whole sale. If each sale makes no profit, it shows not reachable, so fix the price or the costs per sale first.
