OTTO keeps its detailed image rules inside its partner area, and we could not read them on a public OTTO page. The figures here come from help pages by integration providers that connect shops to OTTO Market, so treat this page as a pre-flight test and your partner account as the final word.
Those providers describe a main image that is either cropped or on a light neutral background, with the product filling about 85% of the area. Unlike a pure white rule, that leaves room for light grey, off-white or beige.
The missing main image error
Sellers using a connector can meet an error named HAUPTBILDER_NICHT_VORHANDEN, which reads as if no image was sent at all. According to Lengow's help page, it can also appear when the linked images fail OTTO's technical requirements. So a file that exists at a working link can still produce this message. Test the file itself, and make sure at least one link is sent with the media type IMAGE.
Details this test cannot see
The same guidance says CMYK files are not permitted, and a browser cannot reliably tell you which colour profile a JPEG uses, so export as RGB from your editor. Retailer names, logos, text, icons, watermarks and test seals such as FSC, Oeko-Tex or TUV are described as off limits on the main image. Sources also conflict on image count: one integrator page says unlimited and another warns against more than 10 per variant. Keeping to 10 avoids the question.
