Allegro image size guide 2026
Quick answer
Allegro images need at least 500 px on the longer side, and anything over 2560 px is scaled down. Any shape works, in JPG, JPEG or PNG. The first image, the thumbnail, has a stricter rule: a white RGB 255, 255, 255 background, with listed exceptions. Regular accounts get 10 photos and business accounts 16.
Allegro's rules are split across two help pages, one for gallery photos and one for thumbnails. Read only the first and you would conclude any background is fine, which is not true of your first image.
In the table below, the 500 px minimum is Allegro's own and applies to the longer side. The 1000 px recommendation and the 20 MB file figure are our own working values, because Allegro publishes neither.

Sizes and photo limits

JPG, JPEG and PNG work everywhere; WebP only through the API or file listing. For accurate colour, stick to the sRGB profile.

Thumbnail background rules
The default is white, RGB 255, 255, 255, with no frames or decoration. Fashion, jewellery, bags, kids clothing and shoes, and travel clothing, luggage and backpacks may use a plain light grey with an HSV value of at least 0.8. Other exceptions cover used items on regular accounts, used car and motorcycle parts on business accounts, digital goods, and categories including sofas, furniture sets, plants, wallpaper and flooring.
Book, game, film and music covers may be shown on white or with no background, as long as the whole cover fits. Bundles must show every item included.
Questions
Does Allegro require square images?
No. Allegro accepts any proportions, including 1:1, 4:3 and 16:9. A square usually suits a thumbnail grid, but it is a choice and not a rule, so this guide lists the shape as any and our checker does not test for it.
Can a white product go on a grey Allegro thumbnail?
Not on that ground. Allegro says white and transparent items get no exception from the white background rule. Grey is available only in the listed fashion and travel categories, and it must be plain and light.
Can I put a watermark on my Allegro photos?
Thumbnails cannot carry a watermark. Allegro says it protects photos digitally by storing identifying data in them, which does not change how they look, and that this process runs automatically. Your own logo is also not allowed on the images.
